David trying vegemite for the first time.
They are really into ginger here. I thought after a few dark and stormies that I was also really into ginger.
I am not.
Our trip to the red centre
Edit: if you do bother viewing these photos any larger than shown here they take several seconds to focus at the larger size. (also, they were taken with iphones so not the best quality anyway).
Our assessment of the Red Centre was that it’s worth seeing, once.
There’s a lot of hiking to do and I wish that we’d seen Kata Tjuta, but ultimately I wouldn’t go again. It was very touristy due to the monopoly of the Ayers Rock Resort and just generally boring. It’s also expensive for what it was. If you think of going, do, it’s worth it, but go in Australian winter when there are far fewer flies (although still quite a bit more than in most places) and expect to spend some money.
Bonus - we did get to see Saturn (rings and all) from a telescope.
Spoiler, it’s The Diner at Trunk.
Trunk is one of the first restaurants we got acquainted with in Melbourne. Located within 2 blocks of our apartment it is a little too easy to make the decision to get a delicious burger from Trunk.
More spoils! Yes, our favorite item from the Diner at Trunk menu is it’s amazing hamburger.

Before you even have the opportunity to add to the awesome, the standard level of amazing starts with:
- a grilled brioche bun
- 175 grams of wagyu beef
- cos lettuce
- tomato (we won’t mention the pickles)
And then you get to add the following:
- Cheese - Cheddar, Gruyere, Raclette, or Monterrey Jack
- Caramelised Onions
- Sauteed mushrooms
- Jalapenos
- Crispy Bacon
- Guacamole
All we can say is that it is delicious. And that doesn’t even take into account the absolutely delicious fries and the homemade ketchup.
Pro-tip: Australians call ketchup tomato sauce, and tomato sauce napoli sauce. (ed: there is much debate re: this)
